MOVIES

Part of the Mounds Theatre's mission is to provide affordable arts and cultural offerings to our community.  Movies have been an integral part of America's art and culture since before the Mounds Theatre first opened as a silent movie house in 1922.  The Mounds now has modern projection equipment and a new 25-foot screen.  Movies are shown at various times throughout the year.  Keep checking our Coming Attractions page for our next movie event.

The Mounds Theatre can be  rented for film festivals, screenings, or other movie activities.  Please call our  motion picture coordinator, John Kaphingst, at 651-269-4294 for more information.

Movies returned to the Mounds Theatre in June 2005
for the first time since July 1967.

The Mounds Theatre has a 25-foot wide movie screen
and can seat approximately 150 people.

Mounds Theatre Motion Picture
Projection Capability

Our projection booth has two 35mm projectors  as well as a Christie platter and modern sound and automation equipment.

Movies can be run from the platter on one projector or individual reels can be run using  both projectors.

One of the projectors in action.

This is the way it used to be.  These are the projectors that were in the projection booth until the Mounds Theatre was renovated.   Parts of them may date back to the first days of the theatre in 1922.   One of these projectors is on display in our lobby.
See more photos of the old projection booth.
